What is Yoga Therapy?

My offering of yoga therapy involves an exploration of yoga philosophy based on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali combined with modern therapeutic approaches such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MCBT). Through this process, you will learn how you can incorporate the 8 limbs of Yoga into everyday life. Our sessions include:

  • A physical practice of yoga postures (asana)

  • Breathwork (pranayama)

  • Meditation and Mindfulness

  • Self Introspection and discussion about key concepts in the Yoga Sutras (svadhyaya) that are helpful to living a purposeful and fulfilling life.

Who Can Benefit from Yoga Therapy?

Anyone can potentially benefit from yoga therapy! I am especially passionate about working with neurodivergent children, teens, and young adults. I also have extensive experience applying the principles of yoga therapy to conditions such as anxiety and orthopedic conditions such as back pain. If you or your child's condition does not fall within that scope, still feel free to reach out and I'll let you know if I feel comfortable moving forward.

NOTE: These sessions are not intended to provide focused psychotherapeutic support for specific mental health conditions as we will not venture deep into the processing of the struggles associated. If it becomes apparent that you may need individual psychotherapy to address any mental health concerns, I will either give you referrals to other psychotherapists in the area or suggest that we transition to a psychotherapeutic model.

What Are Your Credentials?

In addition to my academic credentials and mental health licenses, I hold certifications as an E-RYT 500, Registered Children's Yoga Teacher (RCYT) through Yoga Alliance, Grandmaster of Yoga from the World Yoga Federation, and I am certified as a yoga therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). I intend to pursue training to become an Ayurvedic Practitioner (AP) in the near future.

The yoga teacher and yoga therapist curriculums consist of coursework in anatomy and physiology, yogic philosophy, the teaching of yoga, pathophysiology, psychopathology, basic Ayurvedic medicine, and medical terminology among other subjects.

How Much Do Sessions Cost?

My initial assessment is $200 and then $150 thereafter. This initial assessment will consist of an interview to determine your goals and clinical needs as well as a physical assessment to determine areas of weakness and to make sure that yoga therapy is safe for you or you child at this time. If you wish to attempt to obtain reimbursement for yoga therapy services through insurance, I am happy to provide a super bill for you; however, I make no guarantees that insurance will reimburse you.

Note that yogic services are not informed by and are separate from my BCBA certification and do not constitute the practice of applied behavior analysis.

Where Can Yoga Therapy Be Provided?
