Educational Consultation & Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE)

Educational Consultation

Does your child have an IEP/504? Are you new to navigating the complex world of special education services? Have you attempted to advocate for accommodations but feel stuck? Are you struggling to determine your next steps after graduating from high school or college? We know how frustrating and complex IEPs and 504s and transitioning as a person with a disability (PWD) can be.

Matthew is licensed and board certified as a special education teacher as well as being a BCBA, therapist, and Assistive Technology Professional (ATP), so he can assist you in understanding the IEP/504 process and help you advocate for your child to get the accommodations that they need to be successful in the educational environment. Matthew can also explore next steps with you as you consider college, graduate school, or joining the workforce along with discussing needed accommodations to be successful. Contact us now to get started! Note that this is a non-lawyer service.

Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)

An IEE is a process conducted when a parent/guardian disagrees with a school system's findings on a functional behavioral assessment (FBA) or psychological evaluation. If a parent requests an IEE, an outside clinician is brought in to conduct an assessment to determine if behavioral or psychological factors are impacting a child's education in the school setting. Matthew's FBA process includes the following components:

  • Interviews with parents and/or teacher(s)

  • Full FBA evaluation and report

  • Functional Analysis Screening Tool (FAST)

  • 3 - 6 hours of observations

  • Data analysis & Review

  • Detailed report and treatment recommendations

If a psychological evaluation is sought, a biopsychosocial assessment will be conducted in conjunction with the use of standardized assessments. All diagnostic evaluations are conducted via Telehealth. Once the assessment process is completed, a diagnostic and/or behavioral report will be written that explains Matthew's findings and offers treatment recommendations within and outside of the school environment.

Note that Matthew isn't a clinical psychologist and cannot do intelligence or neuropsychological testing. If you are unsure if Matthew is qualified to conduct your IEE, reach out and he will clarify if he is able to proceed. If Matthew is unable to complete your IEE, he will provide referrals to professionals that are able to assist you.

All costs for the IEE will fall onto the school district. Currently, we are only able to offer IEEs within the City of Fredericksburg Public Schools. If you are from Spotslyvania or Stafford, still reach out as we will determine if staff is available to travel to your child's school for observations.
